Comikaze Expo has a New Executive and a New Date
Los Angeles is home to many huge conventions and events, Anime Expo, Electronic Entertainment Expo, and now Comikaze Expo. The convention first launched in November 2011 and it billed itself as the first major comic convention for the Los Angeles area. They went after a new market that didn't have a large comic convention of its own, and the people responded. For its first year, the convention had an impressive attendance of 40,000 people, immediately becoming one of the largest comic conventions in the United States [1]. I had the pleasure of attending Comikaze Expo for its inaugural year and I had a very glowing review of the convention. The location was great and I loved the layout of the event [2]. Comikaze Expo has announced today a huge announcement, a new executive on board the event and a new location change.
The first big announcement is that comic book master Stan Lee will be working with Regina Carpinelli on Comikaze Expo. This is a huge announcement since this is the first time that Stan Lee has worked directly with a comic convention. Stan Lee worked in collaboration with several artists in Marvel and created iconic stories and characters in Spider Man, the Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thor, The Avengers, and many more. He led the Marvel revolution and helped establish Marvel as a force in the comic book world. Stan Lee will be lending his name to Comikaze Expo, officially changing the name of the convention to Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo [3]. The convention is moving its date, from November to September 15-16th. I see this as a huge potential for growth since this date is near the beginning of the school year for many people and the beginning of school has a small workload. Combined with the positive word of mouth and Stan Lee himself, I could see this convention turning into a massive con very fast.
Congratulations for Comikaze Expo for setting the bar ever higher. I look forward to attending the convention this year. Single day passes are $12 and it goes up to $15 in May. Weekend pre-sale passes cost $20. The convention will be from September 15, 2012 to September 16th, 2012. More information on Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo can be found here.
