For cosplayers, there is a myriad of reasons for cosplaying, from honoring a favorite character to obtaining popularity and fame. For researchers, investigating motivating factors for cosplayers is a popular subject. There are multiples ways to separate motivational factors, two of them are intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is a classification of motivation where the inspiration for the motivation comes internally, from within the person. Extrinsic motivation is a classification of motivation where the inspiration for the motivation comes externally, outside of the person. This essay will explore the idea of cosplay motivation through intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

Within academia, the study of cosplay and cosplay culture is an emerging field, so there is not too much academic literature on the subject. This essay will explore the history of cosplay through academic literature in a literature review. We will explore the history of cosplay through the origins of cosplay in the United States and Japan, the name cosplay, and how the anime and manga form of cosplay came to the west and entrenched itself in the western fandom.   Hi everyone, sorry I neglected this blog, I ignored this blog for 5 years and it get 300,000 hits when I was gone. This COVID-19 pandemic era is a suitable time to start doing this blog again because it is history happening. Since my last post, I started working for the government, started grad school (again), and I played a ton of games, watched a ton of anime, and read a ton of manga, so there is no shortage of material to post on here. Because of my intense workload and school load, I will aim to do at least two big (at least 1,000 words) thoughtful posts a month. Let see how long that lasts!
